Comprehensive Industry–Academia Collaboration Between Chung Hwa University and New Smart Technology

Chung Hua University and Haotian Optoelectronics held an inauguration ceremony on August 22 to unveil the “Haotian Optoelectronics Optical Imaging Laboratory.”

Haotian Optoelectronics generously donated advanced equipment valued at NT$14.8 million to the university, benefiting students from the College of Information and Electrical Engineering. This initiative marks the beginning of a comprehensive industry-academia collaboration between the two parties, which will include joint project development, corporate internship opportunities, and industry experts serving as guest lecturers.

Chung Hua University President Dr. Wei-Chi Liu expressed his sincere appreciation to Haotian Optoelectronics for its generous donation of equipment, which enables students to become proficient in operating various machines during their studies—helping them prepare for future careers in advance.

He also noted that Haotian Optoelectronics plans to relocate its operations from Taipei to Zhubei in the near future, strengthening its connection with the Hsinchu Science Park. Dr. Liu looks forward to this all-round industry–academia collaboration fostering more outstanding talent for the high-tech industry.

Mr. Wen-Chi Shih, Chairman of Haotian Optoelectronics, shared that the company was founded in 2015 with a focus on technological innovation in optical imaging products. Its multidisciplinary team includes experts in optics, mechanics, electronics, software, process engineering, and automation.

The company’s product portfolio spans optical imaging, automotive electronics, and automation equipment. Two years ago, Haotian Optoelectronics received strategic investment from Taiya Semiconductor, which became its largest shareholder—driving continued business growth.

Looking ahead, the company plans to expand its presence in the semiconductor and AI sectors. Mr. Shih expressed his enthusiasm for the comprehensive industry–academia collaboration with Chung Hua University, which he hopes will attract more talented professionals to join the Haotian team.

Mr. Chih-Chung Chen, General Manager of Haotian Optoelectronics, noted that the company has made significant progress in key areas such as semiconductors, the metaverse, and autonomous vehicles.

He acknowledged the strong foundation in AI training among faculty and students at Chung Hua University and expressed confidence that this comprehensive industry–academia collaboration will lead to deeper integration in the AI field. He also looks forward to exploring broader opportunities for future cooperation between the two parties.

Dr. Kun-Ming You, Vice President of Chung Hua University, shared that the university began actively investing in AI education eight years ago, making AI the core focus across all academic disciplines.

Six years ago, the university established Taiwan’s first AI+ Experience Center, and later this year, it will launch the nation’s first Metaverse Experience Center. Currently, 92% of all courses offered at the university are AI-related, and 94% of students have taken at least one professional AI course.

Dr. You expressed strong confidence in the university’s talent pipeline, stating that Chung Hua University students will certainly live up to Haotian Optoelectronics’ expectations.

In fact, Mr. Yao-Hung Lin and Mr. Ke-Yuan Hsiung, both currently serving as Associate Managers at Haotian Optoelectronics, are alumni of the master’s program at Chung Hua University’s College of Information and Electrical Engineering.

The two were joined at the ceremony by Mr. Wei-Hao Huang, Deputy General Manager of Haotian Optoelectronics, to witness the unveiling.

Following the ceremony, which concluded smoothly, Mr. Wei-Chih Chang, Senior Manager at Haotian Optoelectronics, introduced the donated equipment to faculty and students. Both parties expressed great anticipation for further collaboration and meaningful exchanges in the future.
